P R O C L A M A T I O N
"Redford Township Suburban League Week"
October 20 - October 26, 2002

WHEREAS: The Redford Suburban League is a local philanthropic organization which has grown from a membership of 43 in 1955 to over 200 in 2002; and

WHEREAS: The League has raised and disbursed thousands of dollars in purposeful and effective charitable enterprise for the retarded, handicapped children and other community interests; and

WHEREAS: The League has merited and received awards such as the "Heart of Gold" in 1970 from Tri-County United Foundation; service award from Penrickton Center for Blind Children in 1979-80; Special Tribute letter from Governor William Milliken, 1979; Boys' Club of Metro Detroit Key Award for Outstanding Community Service, 1976-1977; and

WHEREAS: Noteworthy among the League's varied and successful money-raising activities are: publishing and sale of Mrs. America Cookbook in honor of the Mrs. America 1961-62, a charter member of the League; sale of "All God's Children", a book and record combination written by League members; presentation annually for more than 20 years of a musical comedy written and produced by League members; and twenty-four consecutive fashion shows featuring celebrity models; and

WHEREAS: In commemoration of Redford Township Suburban League Week, the League will celebrate their anniversary on October 23, 2002, with a fashion show entitled "Fall Festival of Fashion 2002", at Burton Manor in Livonia with this being their 29th fashion show; and

WHEREAS: Proceeds from the luncheon will be used for the benefit of retarded citizens, physically handicapped children and community interests.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that we, the members of the Charter Township of Redford Board of Trustees, do hereby proclaim the week of October 20 - October 26 2002, REDFORD SUBURBAN LEAGUE WEEK in Redford, and encourage our residents to participate and to support the League wholeheartedly.
