About Senior Activities

The senior office oversees all activities relating to the senior population within Redford Township.. We offer programs through the Senior Office such as: painting classes, arts and crafts, Tax Assistance, home chore referrals, health fairs, blood pressure screening, card parties, dinner-dance parties, exercise classes, Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program, Michigan Emergency Prescription Program, Meals-On-Wheels, Congregate Meals.

Are you providing care to a friend, neighbor or person with a disability? Attend one of the 2010 Caregiver Conferences to learn valuable information and resources that are available to you! Free health screenings are being offered two hours before the start of each conference to provide additional education and support! Caregivers and the adult person they are caring for are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be provided. Senior Gift Shop

Community Center - The gift shop is staffed by volunteers Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
All crafts are handmade by talented seniors. For more information call 313-387-2788. The items are handcrafts and the Senior Fund receives 80% of all sales. (more information)

Hot Lunch Program

Wayne County Nutritional Program - Seniors are encouraged to join us for a hot meal and camaraderie with peers during our hot lunch program. Seniors interested in coming in for congregate meals must call 24 hours in advance no later than 11:00 a.m. to order a meal the next day at 313-387-2778. Thank you.

The FILE OF LIFE
"This Information Card Could Someday Save Your Life"

The FILE OF LIFE is a mini-medical history card that fits into a magnetized red plastic folder. The folder is easily attached to a refrigerator door for visibility. Should you be unable to communicate with local emergency personnel...they know where to locate the FILE OF LIFE.

The FILE OF LIFE is a record card that lists all your current medications, illnesses, physician and family/friend contact. This information is personal...you fill out the card and keep it up to date. There is NO COST INVOLVED. This is FREE!

Pick up your FILE OF LIFE at the Senior Center Office, located in the Community Center Building, 12121 Hemingway. The office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
The only requirement is that you are a Redford Township resident and over the age of 55 years old.

If you feel you may need assistance in filling out the form, please bring all your medications with you.

Loan Closet

Loan Closet, Redford Township is open Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. for Redford Residents only. We have walkers, crutches, canes etc. available. For more information please call 313-387-2788.

 

Special Activity Groups and Programs

The Redford Connector provides curb to curb service throughout Redford Township, with many selected trips outside Redford, including those to area shopping malls, restaurants and special events. The Connector will also take you to appointments at Botsford, Garden City and St. Mary's Hospitals. Bussess are equipped with a lift-ramp to assist disabled persons. The service is available Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. You must call two days in advance to schedule your pickup, and all service is available on a first served basis. To schedule a pick up please call 313-387-2770 between 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Cost for Seniors 62 and disabled are $2.00 each way The General Public is $4.00 each way. Please note the drivers do not make change. Please bring exact change for the ride.

Volunteers are needed in the following areas:

Cancer Pad Volunteers Needed
Join us at the Redford Community Center at 12121 Hemingway every 2nd and 4th Wednesday from 9am - 2pm to help sew pads for community members suffering with cancer. The fabric used is donated by members of the community so your need only to bring your scissors, needle and thread. Touch someone's life today by putting your sewing skills to work and make new friends while participating in a rewarding endeavor.

Meals-on-Wheels
If you enjoy helping others Meals-On-Wheels and Congregate meals needs your help packaging food for home-bound seniors! The hours for this program is Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. For more information please call 313-387-2788.

Do you enjoy knitting or crocheting ?
If the answer is yes, Angel Care needs your assistance making baby blankets for parents. For more information please call 313-387-2788.

Are you a gardener?
The Redford Senior and Youth Department need help growing a vegetable garden for the Redford Interfaith Food Pantry. All food will be distributed to needy seniors and families residing in Redford Twp. For more information please call 313-387-2788.
