Community
service is the stronghold of the SIX MILE ASSOCIATION founded in June
of 1997. Each year the churches and businesses on the Six Mile Corridor
unite to plan a spring, summer and fall event that brings hundreds of
residents together for family friendly fun. The Six Mile Association
sponsors the following events:
The day before Easter
you will find thousands of stuffed eggs hidden on the lawn of Good Shepherd
Church where afterwards the children try to win one of the many fun
filled baskets, have their photos taken with the Easter Bunny. The Elks
Club has traditionally sponsored a wonderful "all you can eat breakfast"
in conjunction with the event.
The first Sunday
in August, we gather vintage cars for our fund raising "In The
Street" car show and street fair, complete with Township celebrities
in the dunking tank and music from the fifties.
The night before
Halloween, on our famous "Angel's Night" all the business
owners dress up in costume to pass out candy to the parading children
of the Township. This early trick or treat celebration is made festive
with homemade scarecrows lining the lampposts.
We have made many
new friends through these events. We hope to continue to increase the
awareness of the Six Mile area, help foster other new associations and
meet the needs of safe famly events within our community.
