The Beautification
Commission in conjunction with the Community Development Office has
implemented a program called Adopt-A-Garden. If you have been to the
Detroit Zoo lately, you have the idea. This is an opportunity for neighbors
to plan and plant a small garden in their subdivision to beautify an
approach or a median strip. It could be a garden in memory or a loved
one or a chance to demonstrate to others that residents care about their
community and would like to display this pride to passersby. This could
be accomplished by a neighborhood organization or a group of people
united in a common cause. A modest sum will be provided by the Beautification
Commission for initial costs. For more information, call Janet Watson
(313) 255-5293 or e-mail at janetwatsonsgarden@yahoo.com
The Grand Dale Neighborhood
Association was the first group to plan and plant a garden for the enjoyment
of the community under this program. It is located on Plymouth Road
near Hemingway. Stop by and see the beautiful work that was done—with
the assistance and support of the Plymouth Road Association and other
local businesses. It’s amazing what can be accomplished by team
efforts.
